OPI COMMUNITY WATER PROJECT (ENUGU STATE)

Rector Cares Foundation, in collaboration with the Poul Due Jensen/Grundfos Foundation, has successfully completed the installation of a solar-powered borehole in Opi Community, located in Nsukka, Enugu State, Nigeria. This community, grappling with economic challenges and concentrated living conditions, faced severe health threats due to a contaminated water source

Before the initiation of the water project, a comprehensive assessment revealed the community’s heavy reliance on a contaminated stream and stored rainwater, situated approximately 10 kilometers away. Our in-depth report documented the critical need for a sustainable water solution. In response, we drilled about 900 FT (almost 300 meters) to tap into a clean water source, overcoming the challenging topography of the community.

The borehole now supplies clean water to 1000-2000 individuals within the immediate community of Umuowulla and reaches up to 20,000 people in neighboring communities of Opi, Nsukka, Enugu state, Nigeria. With a pumping capacity of 14,000 liters in a few hours, the community enjoys access to clean water 24 hours a day.
