Young Visionary Wins ₦500,000 in Rector Cares Foundation’s WASH Essay Competition
In a remarkable display of youthful insight and passion, Confidence Eneotu Isaiah of St. Greg’s High School has emerged as the winner of the 2024 Rector Cares Foundation WASH Essay Competition. Her compelling essay on “The Critical Role of WASH in Promoting Sustainable Development in Lagos” captivated the judges with its originality, depth, and actionable solutions.
The competition, launched in October 2024, invited SS1 and SS2 students from recognized secondary schools in Lagos to articulate innovative ideas addressing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) challenges. Confidence’s essay stood out among numerous submissions, earning him the grand prize of ₦500,000 and additional accolades.


At the award ceremony, Confidence expressed his gratitude and emphasized the importance of youth involvement in solving environmental issues. “This opportunity has empowered me to think critically about the challenges in our communities and how we, as the younger generation, can contribute to sustainable solutions,” she remarked.

Mr. Onyedikachi Erete, Founder of Rector Cares Foundation, lauded the participants for their enthusiasm and creativity. “This competition has unveiled the potential of our youth to drive change. Confidence’s essay is a testament to the innovative thinking we aim to foster,” he stated.
The success of this inaugural essay competition underscores Rector Cares Foundation’s commitment to engaging young minds in critical discussions about sustainable development. Plans are already underway for future editions, aiming to reach more students and amplify youth voices in environmental advocacy.
